Help With Your Lay-Z-Spa Inflatable Liner

Here you’ll find information to help you with your Lay-Z-Spa liner, including causes and solutions to any issues you may encounter, such as bulging, deflating, leaking and much more.

ReasonSolution
Over inflation.Deflate the liner slightly to eliminate the bulging.
Direct sunlight.Spas are not designed to be left in direct sunlight. If the spa is left in direct sunlight, this will cause the air inside the liner to heat up and expand. This in turn will cause the liner, which is manufactured from Vinyl to expand and bulge. This is not a manufacturing defect. The spa would need to be moved to a more shaded spot.

If your liner is still bulging and you are still within your warranty period, please contact the aftersales team who will be able to assist you further. If you’re no longer within your warranty period, replacement liners can be purchased from our Lay-Z-Spa Covers & Liners category.

Water is leaking from the pump connections. You may need to confirm whether the pump unit or the liner are behind the problem. Attach the stopper caps to the inside of the liner, disconnect the pump unit, and move the pump unit away from the liner for approximately 10 minutes. If no more water has appeared beneath the liner, then the pump is causing the leak and will need to be replaced.

This problem normally occurs when a new liner has been purchased or replaced under warranty. New liners need a little time to expand before they reach the correct size.

The rate at which the liner expands depends on the ambient air temperature and how often the water is heated. We apologise if your replacement liner is not as aesthetically pleasing as your previous liner. However, it should look the same once fully expanded.

There are a number of reasons why the liner might be discoloured or stained. The following are some of the more common symptoms and causes.

Symptom: Pinking

Solution: Pinkish staining is a by-product of a micro-organism called Streptoverticillium Reticulum. The micro-organism is often present in areas of high humidity and is usually deposited by the rain.

Although the vinyl coating on a spa is treated to resist bacteria (meaning it is not a suitable food source), it is still a perfect host site for this particular micro-organism. Other than looking strange, staining should not affect the use of your liner or enjoyment of your spa.

Despite the fact that the pinkish staining is extremely difficult to remove, regularly cleaning your liner should prevent Streptoverticillium Reticulum from ever appearing.

Unfortunately, this is not a manufacturing defect and the Aftersales Team will not be able to replace this under warranty for you. The pinking will not cause any problems with using the spa but unfortuantely, will look unsightly. Replacement liners can be purchased from our Lay-Z-Spa Covers & Liners category.

Symptom: Colour has faded

Solution: This can be caused by over-exposure to sunlight, or by over-using chemicals such as chlorine to treat the water. Unfortunately, there is no way to restore the original colour of the liner. However, it should not affect the use of your liner or enjoyment of your spa.

Symptom: Mould

Solution: This is usually caused by the liner being damp when putting your Lay-Z-Spa away for the winter. Mould can be cleaned using diluted washing up liquid or the ClearWater Scale and Stain Remover. This product will not harm the liner in any way.

To attach the pump, you may need to manipulate the pipes inside the liner. The pipes may have been folded slightly which is why they cannot be attached. Please rest assured that the pipes are malleable and can be manipulated. You may also need to pull the liner wall towards the pump when trying to attach it.

If you’re struggling to remove the filter housing, you may find it easier when the spa is empty and deflated. Using an item such as a flannel will offer additional grip to help you remove it. If this doesn’t work, you may find that you have one of the following problems:

ReasonSolution
The filter housing may have expanded due to the heat of the water.Let the water cool down. This should cause the filter housing to contract and make it much easier to remove.
The filter housing may have been cross-threaded.Carefully break it off. Replacements can be purchased from our Lay-Z-Spa Spare Parts category.
